Hello, my name is Ellie. I'm a part of Jessica and one of her many. I'm lovingly referred to as a "grumpy librarian" and recently as "internal HR". Having a blog is an exciting new outlet for myself and for ourselves. I'm interested as to how this will be used by us and the creativity this may inspire in us all.
That neatly brings me onto the point of this ramble. Creativity. It's a funny thing, people seem to think of it as the creation of the more traditional arts, reserved only for those with talent. Yet I feel creativity is simply the action of creation.
The importance of creation
In the times we live in its easy to feel missed, unseen, unheard. The world wide web as brought so many people closer together and created so many connections. Yet it's so easy to feel alone and isolated. The act of creating something, the act of making something that a person can interact with can make you feel more connected. You feel seen and more important you feel more permanent. Your creation is proof of your existence your impact on this world. Your creation is proof you where alive.
Why Trans people should write
So you are thinking why is this article about trans creativity, why has Ellie decided to focus on transgender individuals(and collectives). Because at this time we exist in a time where it is not simply ok to exist as a trans person. No matter where in the world you are there is always an aspect of danger by simply existing as yourself. Creating proves to the world we exist, it proves we have always existed and it proves we will always exist. No matter how much we are pushed down we will always exist.
The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.
- Albert Camus
Keep on creating. Keep writing that code, playing that music, drawing that art, writing those posts. Keep on existing.
Why should I care?
So you may have come to the end of this post and think to yourself why should I, the reader, care?
Because do you truly think you are exempt? Do you truly think you are safe from oppression? Do you think once they push us down your not somewhere next in line? Existence can be overwhelming, overrated, stressful but proving your existence means so much!
You exist against all the odds and you should continue to do so.
